Shadow’s Havana Heat Wave

Shadow soaking up the sunshineShadow was a black Havana rabbit.  We sometimes called him our hot latin bunny. He was a total contrast at times about liking / not liking being hot.  We have a large bay window in the dining room where the windows are almost floor to ceiling. It lets in a lot of hot Georgia sunshine throughout most of the year. Shadow loved to hop up on an exercise step that we had sitting in front of the dining room window or he would lay on the rug in front of the window facing it just soaking up the sunshine.  Shadow would stay there for long periods of time, sometimes whole afternoons. He would be completely relaxed with his eyes closed, motionless without even noticeable nose twitching, looking like the ultimate bunny rabbit sunbather.

Shadow covering the air conditioning ventThen there was the contrast of Shadow in the living room.  On summer days we would be hit with Havana heat waves.  We would suddenly start to realize that the living room was getting really hot.  Sure enough when we would look, the floor air vent would be blocked with Shadow parked across it.  Sometimes he would completely cover every inch of it so there was no air circulation at all except to his tummy which would then be quite cold to the touch.  He never parked on the vent when it was blowing warm furnace air, only when it was cool air from the air conditioning system.
