More Dust Bunnies Are On the March!

Dust Bunnies Bumper Sticker

On sale in our CafePress shop now!

A few months back, there was a comment that putting our marching dust bunnies on a bumper sticker would be a great idea. I missed that when it was first posted, but found it recently. It was one of those that is a terrific idea, why didn’t I think of it moments. Today I had the opportunity to create the bumper sticker and the Dust Bunny Bumper sticker is now available in our CafePress shop as a single, a 10 pack or a 50 pack of bumper stickers.

It is wonderful when people contact us through the website or our shops and ask if we can do something based on other things that we have. Many times those are good ideas for things that we can easily do, we just didn’t think of it. So we really appreciate suggestions and questions about whether something is possible.

Some new products we create and occasionally a whole line begins with a suggestion or question from a follower or potential customer. We really appreciate hearing what people think or would like. Sometimes I’ve had beads hiding in a drawer waiting for an idea and someone’s question or comment about what they would like to see for jewelry or an accessory helps me to realize how the beads were meant to be used.

So thank you all for being so wonderful asking questions, providing feedback and suggestions. We appreciate that so much!

Team members of the Etsy Rabbits team have been working to let everyone on Etsy know about International Rabbit Day.  Since celebrations of the day have been listed for either the fourth Saturday / Sunday of September, the team has chosen to make the most of the different dates and we will celebrate on both the 24th and 25th, making it a rabbit day weekend.

Throughout the month of September and especially this coming weekend, team members have been creating wonderful treasuries. These feature the work of team members and many other Etsy shops.  They have been finding some fabulous handcrafted bunny rabbits and lovely vintage items too!

Check out the Etsy Rabbits team blog to see mini shots of the treasuries. You can click on those treasury minis to go to the full treasuries and view items of interest.  It is a wonderful time to shop and buy gifts for rabbit lovers, splurge on yourself, or even get something for your rabbit.  Many team members currently have house rabbits, some are involved in rabbit rescue work and designate a portion or all of sales to be donated to rescue groups.  There are shops that have items for rabbits and other pets too.

The blog will be updated with new treasuries as they are posted throughout the weekend, so check back for new finds!  If you like a treasury, you can favorite it or Tweet it or like it on Facebook to share with others.  Leaving comments, clicking on items in treasuries, and favoriting them can increase the visibility for them.  We would love to really up the visibility of rabbits this weekend by having them be really very visible on a huge website like Etsy that has millions of viewers worldwide.

Getting ready to bunny hop big time!

I created a treasury of dark and wonderful items on Etsy with a rabbit twist. Click on the image above to view the full treasury and read what is behind Dark with Rabbits.  You will find the answer in my Curator’s description just below the pictures.

Most spooky tales have cautionary elements to them.  So, this isn’t based on personal experience.

Treasury Thursday – 72 Hours Mystery

This treasury is part of a Nonteam Challenge that runs each week from noon on Thursday until noon on Sunday.  Everyone creating a treasury must build it around one challenge item.  This week it is The Reading Tree by Emerald Town Raven photo in the top.

Looking at Emerald Town Raven’s shop, I saw some beautiful photos of cats.  I was thinking about the length of time for the challenge, 72 hours.  The idea of cats, the mystery of them and 72 hours combined together into a who done it mystery show feel for me and I went looking for items that would go along with that.

I loved using the muscadine grape-vine chews from Magic Happens Rabbit Rescue.  It looked like a group of potential evidence with its “B” crime scene label marker in place.  All in all, this was a lot of fun to create.

Commence bunny hopping! This will be the first of six treasuries to highlight both International Rabbit Day and the active Etsy Rabbits Team shops. This treasury is items from international team members. The team currently has members from 14 countries and about 100 active shops.

This treasury includes colors and themes from the September trends report put out by Etsy.  Of course I had to lead it off with a bunny rabbit for International Rabbit Day which falls on September 24th.  September is also National Honey month and trending colors are orchid and phlox purple.

Enjoy!

A Treasury – One Last Summer Getaway

If you can’t find a bunnysitter to physically get away, at least take visual vacations. That is what I like so much about treasuries on Etsy. I can curate 16 items that take me away to somewhere else for a time. Sometimes I buy an item and sometimes by doing the treasuries I help a buyer and seller connect by promoting other’s on Etsy. This treasury celebrates the end of summer and that special quality of light seen this time of year as summer is closing out.

Enjoy!

Runny Babbit by Shel Silverstein

Available on Amazon

I have always had the tendency to say the wrong thing.  As a teenager, I heard a saying that I had to adopt, “I only open my mouth to exchange feet.”  It hasn’t gotten much better doing things through email or online.  Now I still say the wrong stuff, but due to those fat fingered / slippery key typos.  I have all kinds of whoops going on at times.

One of my big speech problems is a tendency to Spoonerisms, dyslexic  transposition of full words or parts of words.  Here’s the Wikipedia definition with some funny examples:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoonerism.  It happens for a lot of people and some people all the time.  The best example I ever saw was a weatherman who meant to talk about cold air masses, but instead reported that there was a possibility of cold mare as_ _ _ ,  you get the drift.

So a couple of years ago when I saw the children’s book Runny Babbit: A Billy Sook by Shel Silverstein, I had to get it.  Even as an adult, I loved reading about Toe Jurtle, Goctor Doose, Bumping Jean, Rirty Dat, Flutterby, Batty Meaver, and of course the star of the book, Runny Babbit.  It is wonderfully illustrated throughout with cute black and white line drawings.

What started me thinking about my oopsies was a thread on Etsy that was talking about a feature I thankfully hadn’t become aware of with any of my keyboard slips.  It seems there has been a built-in automatic censor to keep offensive language out of titles and chats.  It has however had unintended consequences in some cases when someone did one of those keyboard typos.

The thread I was reading provided a link back to a truly funny example from a thread in 2009 (now closed and archived, but still readable).  A woman intended to type in her discussion title as “What do you think about men’s shirts?”  Only she accidentally left the “r” out of shirts while typing.  The automatic Etsy censor replaced her unallowed word choice with something it was programmed to believe was more appropriate for a title.  So her discussion thread posted under the title:  “What do you think about men’s poops?”  Needless to say, it had quite a run and drew a lot of people into the thread.

Others on Etsy reported it had been disconcerting to be discussing watching birds (tits) in the chats and have the automatic censor change what they were writing to boob watching.  As I program some things on the web for others to use, it is a cautionary tale of not making assumptions that everything is either black or white, on or off.  I don’t / won’t / can’t always know better than users.  Which brings me to a second favorite saying I saw years ago, “HUMOR, never leave home without it”.

So this weekend, grave a heat time!

Treasury Tuesday – A Glorious Day

Glorious Day Etsy treasury

On Tuesday, I always try to create one or more beautiful treasuries to lift my spirits. Today I created one featuring many items from members of the Lean On Me team. The inspiration for the colors and title came from the painting by Lauras Fine Art, Cool Clouds and Golden Field.
